Kamika Ekadashi is celebrated during the Krishna Paksha of Sridhara (Shravana) month. Worshipping Lord Hari on this day grants the same spiritual merit as visiting all sacred pilgrimage sites, and is highly praised for dissolving the heaviest karmic reactions of violence and accidental sins.
The legend was narrated by Lord Brahma to Sage Narada. In a traditional Indian village, there lived a hot-tempered landlord who got into a physical fight with a pious Brahmin. In the heat of the anger, the landlord accidentally killed the Brahmin. Realizing the gravity of his terrible sin, the landlord felt deep remorse and wished to participate in the Brahmin's funeral rites to seek forgiveness.
However, the local assembly of Brahmins rejected his request, stating that they could not associate with or accept food from a person who carried the sin of killing a Brahmin. Filled with grief, the landlord met a compassionate saint living nearby and begged for a way to purify his heavy heart and clear his sins.
The saint advised him to observe the upcoming Kamika Ekadashi with pure devotion and worship Lord Vishnu. The landlord strictly fasted and prayed all night before the deity. Miraculously, Lord Hari appeared to him in a dream, declaring that his sincere repentance and observance of Kamika Ekadashi had completely washed away his sin. Thus, Kamika Ekadashi remains a great source of redemption.
