Pavitropana Ekadashi (also celebrated as Shravana Putrada Ekadashi) falls in the Shukla Paksha of Shravana month. Worshipping Lord Hari on this day has the unique power to bless couples with worthy, noble offspring, and is revered by all those who wish for the growth of a virtuous family lineage.
In ancient times, a peaceful kingdom named Mahishmati was ruled by a highly benevolent King named Mahijit. He was loved by all his subjects because of his kindness. However, the King had one deep sorrow—he had no children. As the years passed, the King became increasingly depressed, fearing that his ancestors would receive no offerings after his death.
Seeing their beloved King's grief, the loyal citizens and sages of the kingdom traveled to the forest to seek advice from the legendary Sage Lomasha, who possessed complete knowledge of past, present, and future. The wise sage explained that in his past life, the King had accidentally driven away a thirsty cow from a pond, resulting in a karmic curse of childlessness.
To break the curse, Sage Lomasha instructed the citizens to observe the upcoming Pavitropana Ekadashi of Shravana month on behalf of their King, and transfer the accrued merit to him. The citizens fasted with pure hearts. On the next day, they offered the merit to King Mahijit. Soon, the Queen became pregnant and gave birth to a glorious, noble prince. This story proves the power of collective prayer and Pavitropana Ekadashi.
