Cida dahi festival (15th June,2018, Saturday) :-
A brief history of the festival- Raghunath (later known as Raghunath Das Goswami who was one of the six Goswamis in Vrindavan, whose books serve as a plinth on which the entire column of the philosophy of Gaudiya Vaishnavism stands) the son of a wealthy zamindar of Saptagram, was totally unattached to worldly opulence. His burning desire was to receive the constant divine association of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who was none other than Krishna in the mood of Srimati Radharani, who descended on this earth planet to deliver the fallen souls by distributing the Holy Name of Krishna. However, when Raghunath expressed his desire before Mahaprabhu when the latter came to Shantipur, Mahaprabhu didn’t accept him and sent him back to his house. Raghunath was heartbroken. Later, he met Nityananda prabhu (who was Lord Balarama Himself and the primeval spiritual master) who was sitting under a banyan tree at the bank of Ganga in Panihati.Nityananda prabhu called Raghunath ‘chora’(meaning thief), for to enter into the empire of Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s mercy, one needs the entry-permit of the mercy of Nityananda prabhu. Raghunath, however, wanted to sneak into that empire without taking the entry- permit with him. Nityananda prabhu, however, bestowed on Raghunath, His mercy in the guise of a punishment (danda). He ordered Raghunath to feed His associates chipped rice (chida) and yogurt (dahi). The punishment (danda) took the form of a festival (Mahotsab) and therefore the chida dahi festival is also popularly known as Danda mahotsab. Raghunath’s desire was finally fulfilled. He was soon accepted by Caitanya Mahaprabhu and was put under the spiritual guidance of Swarup Damodar Goswami, one of the principal associates of Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
